In 2009, after years of work as a criminal defence lawyer, Joan was awarded a Master of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.

For over 30 years, Andre has been a criminal defence lawyer with a focus on drug cases. Because these cases sually involve entry into private premises, searches , and seizures of property, this has meant an emphasis on Charter of Rights litigation involving the legal basis for arrest and searches.
Other areas where Andre has developed particular expertise are fraud charges and violent offences . He has represented accused persons in a number of high profile homicides.
Articling and being mentored by a criminal defence barrister allowed Andre to concentrate consistently on trial work at both provincial and superior court levels.
Andre has taught advocacy for both the Legal Education Society of Alberta, and the University of Calgary Law School.
For a number of years he was a board member of the national Court Challenges Program
In the late19 80s, he was counsel on the first French jury trial in Western Canada.
